| Function and Use: |
The agency used the data to evaluate applications for Federal aid from organizations that provided services to homeless persons, to support the work of the Interagency Council on the Homeless, and to answer queries from Congress and the public about those organizations and agency's homeless assistance programs. Applications were received under one of the agency's homeless assistance programs: Emergency Shelter Grant Program (ESGP) 1987-1994; Supplemental Assistance for Facilities to Assist the Homeless (SAFAH) 1987-1992; Section 8 Moderate Rehabilitation Assistance for Single-Room Occupancy Dwellings (SROs) 1987-1993; Supportive Housing Demonstration Program (SHDP) 1987-1992; Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS (HOPWA) 1992; Shelter Plus Care (S+C) 1992-1993; Supportive Housing Program (SHP) 1993; and Innovative Supportive Housing Program, 1994. |

This series contains information on projects from organizations that applied for Federal financial assistance to provide shelter to homeless persons. Included are the names, locations and brief description of the projects; the names and addresses of the organizations that sponsored the projects; the agency program under which the organization applied for assistance; the characteristics of the housing being provided; a description of the projects' clientele; the conditions projects had to meet to qualify for aid; the amount of money awarded, if any; and date of the award. The records also contain data taken from the application or added during the evaluation process. |
